Questions That Deserve Answers
I have some questions for Donald Trump. Reliable sources report that Trump has admitted three times recently that he lost to Joe Biden in 2020 “by a whisker.” My main question, then, is what was the point of the January 6th attack on the Capitol?
Having admitted that you knew you were lying, what do you owe the family of Keven Greeson, who died of a heart attack on January 6th near the Capitol?
Having admitted that you knew you were lying, what do you owe the family of Brian Sicknick, Capitol Police officer, who died of two strokes on January 7?
Having admitted that you knew you were lying, what do you owe the families of four Capitol Police officers who died by suicide after January 6?
Having admitted that you knew you were lying, what do you owe the family of Aslie Babbitt, one of your supporters and was shot as she tried to storm the Capitol?
Having admitted that you knew you were lying, what do you owe the over 140 Capitol Police and Washington DC police officers who were injured on January 6?
Having admitted that you knew you were lying, what do you owe Vice President Mike Pence, who would have been hanged on January 6th if not for the bravery of Capitol Police?
Having admitted that you knew you were lying, what do you owe the 1265 rioters who believed your lie and have been arrested for their part in the riot?
When will you apologize to the nation for the unnecessary trauma that you caused on January 6 and on every other day when you’ve knowingly lied as you repeated the claim that you won the 2020 election?
I’ve done a considerable amount of traveling over the past month, and I see Trump signs everywhere in rural America. I find it ironic that many of the Trump signs are accompanied by another sign: “We Back the Badge.” Backing the badge would seem to be a statement of support for law enforcement officers. My problem is this: What support for law enforcement officers did Trump and his minions offer on January 6?
I don’t expect Trump to acknowledge, much less answer, these questions, but Trump supporters owe those of us who fear Trump’s return to power an answer as to why, given his admission that he knew he’d been defeated in 2020, they continue to support him. Do Trump supporters not feel betrayed?
The sad truth is that January 6 had nothing to do with a stolen election. The riot was simply a display of one man’s ego. From what we know, Trump sat glued to the TV that afternoon, refusing to call off his supporters, more interested in feeling adored by his cult followers than protecting democracy and saving lives.
It speaks volumes that Trump gets up every morning, looks at his face in the mirror, and then stands before crowds and claims he can make America great again. How great did America look to the watching world on January 6? How many people around the world watched the riot unfold and thought, “That’s a country that I admire?”
If this November we will not hold Trump accountable for the senseless loss of life and loss of global prestige on January 6, what else will we be asked to excuse him for in the future?
